Last week, Joonbug had the pleasure of learning all about the newly rebranded Rakuten.com Shopping, one of the world's largest e-commerce marketplaces. The Japan-based business focuses on making products from small businesses and local merchants available to the masses. Rakuten was so successful in Japan that they have decided to open up shop in the United States as Rakuten.com Shopping (formerly Buy.com). It differs from other similar sites such as eBay and Amazon in that instead of focusing on the lowest prices, it focuses on the quality of the product. Roger Andelin, President and CTO comments: "Rakuten.com Shopping is for the online shopper who expects quality over quantity and enjoyable shopping experiences over ambiguous transactions. We are very excited about raising the bar for online shopping and continuously improving to meet the modern shopper’s wants and needs."
Suzanne McKenzie, former art director of MOMA, is the founder of a great new retail site called Able Made. Currently, the site is featuring collaborations with Threadless, Lauren Bush's Lauren's Feed Foundation, Public School, and Project Runway Season 9 winner, Anya Ayoung Chee. Proceeds from every product sold on the site directly benefit organizations selected by the designers, including VH1's Save the Music Foundation, CFDA Foundation, and Pencils of Promise. According to the Tribune Review, patrons spotted the bear in the parking lot around 8:30pm and started chasing it around with their cars said witness, Mark Marcinik, who was outside at the time.
(Come on people, how would you like to be chased around on your way to the mall?)
