SIMON COWELL
Britney Spears has reportedly signed a deal to fill in after Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul left last year. According to E! Online, after months of negotiations and speculation, the pop princess will officially be alongside judges Simon Cowell and L.A. Ried. Reps for the show had no comment, however. Cowell this past March even said he was "flattered" Spears was interested in joining the FOX show but revealed little about the singer becoming a judge.
We hope you join the show girl, you deserve it! Just don't let it become a trainwreck like the last time we saw you on TV in Britney and Kevin: Chaotic.
British boy band One Direction is being sued by a lesser known American band, also called One Direction. (WTF?) The band of 5 are demanding a court order to force Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson to change the name of their band!
The US One Direction just filed the lawsuit, claiming they formed in 2009. This is an entire year before the UK band members even knew each other. In addition to building a reputation around the name, the American One Direction claim they also beat the Brits to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office -- filing a trademark application for "One Direction" long before the UK boy band.
Now the Americans are asking for a court order, requiring the Brits to change their name.
The Americans are also suing Simon Cowell's record label and Sony Music -- demanding more than $1 million in damages.
In a blog by the US band they explained that they liked the Brit act but “To protect [their] rights, [they] reluctantly have filed a lawsuit.”
Since getting dumped from the The X-Factor USA, Cheryl Cole, has been rendered vulnerable and recently spotted with ex hubby, Ashley. The two parted ways last year after a slew of affairs on Ashley's behalf, and now he's creeping his way back into her life.
The Daily Mirror spoke with Cheryl's mother, Joan Callaghan, who seems to be less than thrilled on former son-in-law's sneaky behavior, saying, "How many times do you want your heart broken?"
Cheryl's friends and family have also gone on to say, "Once a cheat, always a cheat. Ashley will go on to break her heart again."
Talk about adding insult to injury. Times two.
Simon Cowell's new upcoming talent show The X Factor, which will make its debut in the fall, is stirring up the controversy as reports of newly added judge Cheryl Cole already being given the boot. British pop superstar Cheryl, 27, has previously appeared with Cowell in the U.K. version of the show for three seasons and was ecstatic when it was announced earlier this month that she will be judging for the U.S. installment, alongside Cowell, Paula Abdul, and L.A. Reid. Also, as of recently, it has been announced that only was she out of her new gig, her original position as a judge for the U.K. version is being revoked as well!
It's no secret that Robert Pattinson is interested in pursuing a career in music. In the early days of his acting debut, he was reported to openly say that, "Music is my back up plan if acting fails". But now the multi- award winner, who was named No. 15 in Vanity Fair's "Hollywood Top 40" is a super successful actor in his own right, is music still in the cards?
It looks like it is. Speaking to BBC Radio 1 recently, he said, "I'd like to start performing again because I haven't done it in so many years now. It makes such a difference in your life. If you've ever done it once, it's very addictive." Pattinson seems to have used the break after filming his new movies Water For Elephants and Breaking Dawn to get his musical fix once again.
Peter Rice, chairman of entertainment for Fox Network Group, says “no one has signed a deal yet” to be a judge in season 10 of American Idol. The rumor mill is spinning fast, and stars like Barry Manilow, Elton John, Bret Michaels, Justin Timberlake, Nigel Lythgoe (So You Think You Can Dance judge) and Howard Stern have all supposedly expressed interest in joining Randy Jackson, the remaining original judge, on the panel. Simon Cowell announced in season 9 that he would be leaving the show to work on his own talent show for Fox, The X Factor. Kara DioGuardi was recently fired for not connecting with the fans. Ellen DeGeneres had a good season on the show, but felt that she was not a good judge of musical talent and left.
Last night was the end of an era for American Idol viewers and the start of a new career for Lee DeWyze, the season 9 winner. The runner up was the free-spirited single mom Crystal Bowersox.
The two hour finale was filled with tons of surprise guests including past winners Carrie Underwood, Kris Allen, Kelly Clarkson, among many others. Was anyone else completely shocked and a little nervous when Brett Michaels walked out on stage? Janet Jackson, Hall and Oates, and Chicago took to the stage to perform some of their biggest hits.
If a revolution was ever to take place in America, I can only hope that Rage Against The Machine will be playing in the background somewhere. Can you think of any other band that has been more connected to protesting or rising up for a cause in the past 15 years than Rage Against The Machine? I can't, so it only makes sense that Rage has done it again.
Tom Morello announced on the band website that if their single "Killing In The Name" is number one on the Christmas Week UK pop charts over the single from Simon Cowell's X-Factor," Rage would play a huge free concert in the UK to celebrate the victory of this historic people's campaign".
When you think of the term ‘American Idol' who comes to mind? Maybe Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson, we think of clean, wholesome faces. Not anymore, after reports confirmed that FOX's number one replacement for Simon Cowell is indeed the shock jock, Howard Stern.
FOX approached Stern after he repeatedly mentioned on-air that his exclusive Sirius XM Radio deal expires next January and he was open to other offers. Cowell, who will leave after this season, takes in $50 million a year, but Stern said he would judge for a $100 million. Stern has been discussing the possibilities quite openly on his radio show, "There's not a better job on the planet than judging a f-----g karaoke contest," Stern told his satellite radio listeners. "It might be possible, we'll see."
When I first brought the news that a subversive, independent facebook campaign was gaining headway in their effort to overthrow a single by Joe McElderry, winner of Britain’s The X Factor, as number one Christmas single in the U.K. pop charts with a Rage Against the Machine song from 1992, I had strong reservations as to whether they would actually succeed in their mission. As the U.K. pop charts closed on Sunday and I heavy-heartedly checked the NME website, who had been covering the battle extensively, my reaction was the same as that of “Rage Against the Machine for Christmas No 1” creator/moderator Jon Morter, as well as many others who had been following the campaign, “F--- me, I can’t believe it’s Number One!”
