Following the devastatingly destructive Southeast Asian tsunami of 2004, CEO of Soles4Souls Inc, Wayne Elsey recognized how helpless one could feel in the face of a natural disaster. After seeing a news image of a victim’s shoe floating onto the shore, he decided to call on his corporate resources in the shoe industry to donate a quarter of a million shoes to victims.
The Nashville-based non-profit has since given away over 14 million pairs of new and gently used shoes to people in 127 countries, and donates another pair every seven seconds. That’s a lot of shoes!
