W Magazine's Ever Changing Face of Beauty

Last night, W Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Stefano Tonchi, partnered up with Global P&G Prestige President, Joanne Crews, to host the Ever Changing Face of Beauty event at our big apple’s Park Avenue Armory. In the frenzy of Fashion Week, W pulled out all the stops using the massive arena-like space to welcome more than 600 guests. If there was ever a fashion week party worth clawing your way into, this was it.

The event celebrated a video installation by world-renowned fashion photographer, Sølve Sundsbø and had a celebrity guest list that could go on for days. The video featured 2 large screens representing man on one, and woman on the other. Throughout the video, both screens show the outcomes of evolution in beauty around the world and its consequences.

Reeve Foundation Night for a Cure

In honor of the National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month, the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation is holding the Reeve Foundation’s Night For a Cure benefit. The event will take place Wednesday, September 7th at 7PM on the beautiful rooftop of the Mondrian SoHo.

The Reeve Foundation is a highly respected and successful nonprofit organization that has funded over $100 million in spinal-cord repair research and quality of life grants. All proceeds from the event will go directly to the foundation. Besides the great cause, the evening will be filled with hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, and a complimentary gift bag, courtesy of Clark's Botanicals. There will also be star-sightings, with actress Julianne Moore and W editor Stafano Tonchi in attendance.

Lunch With Lartigue

Tuesday night I caught a brief ending to an open Q&A with Ruffian designers, Brian Wolk and Claude Morais. The design duo spoke on the craftsmanship of their Fall 2010 bevy- taking note of their silk blouses, flaring knee-length skirts and cropped jackets. Brian expressed major enthusiasm when speaking about the sequined jersey dresses, which required the designers to send them out for handmade work. The small, yet intimate event allowed attendees to roam the studio admiring the designers sketches, artwork and wall of inspiration. The collection was partially inspired by Van Gogh's Starry Nights, a theme that carried through the vintage arrangement of images within the design room. The evening was hosted by Friends of Fashion, a national social enterprise created to support the fashion industry through scheduled exclusive events, private shopping parties and designer meet-and-greet opportunities. W Magazine's EIC Is A Bad Boy

Where are the rest of the EICs with a bit of edge?

And when we say 'edge,' we're not referring to the EIC who opted to be "cool" and wear the same ensembles for 3 or more days to prove a statement. Oop, Anna is that you?

We mean the bad boys and girls who refuse to cooperate with the police and get arrested. Stefano Tonchi - we're looking at you! Gawker revealed that W magazine's new EIC was arrested in Beverly Hills back in 2009 - yes, when he refused to take a breathalizer test during a routine traffic stop - only to be arrested and walk away with a misdemeanor DUI charge. Tonchi's case was put on hold for almost an entire year, thus he was scheduled to appear in court for trial this past Thursday. Tonchi's appearance in court was confirmed by Tonchi's lawyers to Gawker, which reports that the EIC did not appear, opting for plea arranged by his lawyers.

For goodness' sake, doesn't the justice system understand this man has a magazine to save?

What's The Catch At W?

Speculation of what could possibly be occuring at W Magazine rose over the weekend after Gawker posted a photo of Karl Lagerfeld and the magazine's fashion director, Alex White, having a quick chat during the Chanel campaign shoot in Soho.

You see, here's the big deal:

  • Alex White was the stylist the day of the Chanel campaign shoot.
  • Stefano Tonchi, W Magazine's new EIC, was scheduled to meet with his new W staff that morning.
  • Alex White asked the Kaiser to send a letter of recommendation to S.I. Newhouse Jr. for an EIC position.

Congratulations Stefano Tonchi

We'd like to congratulate Stefano Tonchi for what we felt he knew was going to happen all along - becoming the editor-in-chief of W Magazine. What started off as a race to the finish line with a handful of prominent heavy hitters contending for the title, has now come to an acceptable end, with Tonchi expected to start work as early as April 12th.

A Night of Grace In The City

Last night was amazing night in NYC as I marched uptown to Bergdorf Goodman to socialize with Linda Fargo, Leigh Lezark, Daphne Guinness and more.

The event was to celebrate Steven Klein: 30 Seasons With Akris. The label's designer, Albert Kriemler, was also in attendance. Besides the amazing and devastatingly handsome catering and bar staff, the fourth floor was filled with delightful Akris-clad mannequins and images of Akris clothing throughout the years.

Stefano Tonchi: The Next Editor-In-Chief?

Last night when I saw T editor, Stefano Tonchi, at the Steven Klein 30 Seasons of Akris/Bergdorf Goodman event, the last thought in my mind was waking up to hear rumors of him possibly becoming the editor-in-chief of W Magazine.

That explains his grin.

As we previously posted, W Magazine is in a bit of a crunch, parting ways with WWD, and taking some of its senior staff from the magazine with it.
