STEREO
It's about that time. Time to put away the mid-day margaritas and get back on tracks. And yes, that's plural, because we know you've plotted out more than one pathway of meyhem to your ultimate goal: gluttony.
So reserve the booze for tomorrow evening at Cielo, when Chus and Ceballos appear to release their new CD Back to Tracks, Vol 2. (Joonbug brought you the news of the release last month, but after all that noontime Patron, we know you've long since forgotten). Prepare for a night of bucolic cowbells, and delicious vocals, as well as that Madrid-tribal sound signature to the duo. All, of course, under Cielo's famous disco ball.
It’s been a good long while since anyone set out from Spain to conquer new territory.
506 years, to be exact.
(Pause for drumroll.)
Introducing Chus and Ceballos, perhaps the greatest duo to come out of Spain since Ferdinand and Isabella. Once upon a time (in 2001), Chus and Ceballos followed in Columbus’s footsteps, bringing their distinct sound to the New World (or, more appropriately, your 6-disc changer). Seamlessly blending House and Techno with an unmistakeable percussion beat, Chus and Ceballos pioneered a ship dubbed as “Iberican” across the wide ocean of house music to start a new colony of artists and producers dedicated to a tribal way of life. Hard work toiling the land earned them residencies at the top clubs in the world, including Stereo Montreal, Pacha NYC, Space Miami and many others. (Sans tomahawks.)
Working with an eclectic blend of internationally renowned artists, Dubset is rapidly establishing itself as the foremost authority in the world of online DJ music. Founded in 2009, Dubset offers its users both exclusive offline mixes and live sets recorded at the most notorious clubs and events from around the globe. By whom? How about, Felix Da Housecat, Junior Sanchez, Steve Aoki, Tommie Sunshine, Mark Ronson, Afrojack, Mia Moretti, Jesse Marco and Jus Ske. The list goes on and on… and is growing daily.
There are a few words that elicit Pavlovian responses in me, such as Meatpacking (that’s the district mind you), cocktail, bar, and, I will happily admit it – Gansevoort. Plunge, on the rooftop, has been one of my favorite bars in the city for years. Some say it’s over-priced, some say it’s worn thin, and others argue it hosts an unnecessarily pretentious crowd. I reject all these notions, and remind people that there are few places where one can get good cocktails, find a table at which conversation can be heard, AND enjoy one of the most beautiful skylines around.
