It’s clear that sparkles are an ever-present staple to a stylish wardrobe; as we’ve seen them take over dresses, handbags, shoes, and even cosmetics. Although they usually make their biggest debut during winter, and especially New Years Eve, they are now starting to take on more realms than one. Slowly showing up in summer accessories and numerous styles, the glittery ensemble is a definite yes for summer. However, as we saw over Fashion Week in February, they are taking all 4 seasons now as they made a very fashionable entrance in fall collections from Lanvin, to Badgley Mischka, and Blumarine as well. Instead of buying the sparkly styles for each season, we here at Glam Damn It have taken it upon ourselves to make your lives easier and your wallets a little fuller. Whether you’re a sparkle fanatic, or like it in small doses, we’ve got the sparkly goods that are perfect pieces to wear during summer, and transition into fall!
From Memorial Day to Labor Day, we try to pack in as many fun-filled summer activities as possible, and with them, we always have to keep our ensemble of the day in mind! Looking for the perfect outfit to wear to your summer barbecue? Whether your style is girly, laidback, or even edgy, we've got you covered! The key is comfort, while still looking good in the summer heat while playing games or munching on snacks. Check out these three different styles that are perfect for your days filled with fun in the sun!
The Girly Girl
Memorial Day weekend is almost here and with it comes parties, barbecues, beach time, and lots, and lots, of fun activities. Now we just need to figure out what to wear! Whether you're hitting the Hamptons, Cape Cod, or Miami you'll need great style. Here are a few great summery essentials we love that include trends of the season from floral prints, to white, bright, and color blocking. It’s time to start packin’!
Clutch or Bag- That is the question!
Whether it is an all weekend event, or a couple hours for the day, make your choice of handbag accordingly. We love these summery styles as the blue and white stripe clutch by Rag & Bone shows a little nautical spirit, and Club Monaco’s Goldie Moroccan Bag has that beachy feel to it with the wicker weave and the gold-dipped bottom.
Over the years, we inevitably see strange trends come and go that always leave us questioning, “Where on earth did that come from?” However, we don’t always look back to the trends of earlier years to really appreciate the hits and misses, the impractical styles, and the "WTF" moments. We thought it’d be fun to take a peek at the history of fashion for a few of the nutty trends that, after really thinking about it, left us with cocked heads and raised brows in amusement. These weren't mere made-only-for-the-runway oddities --people actually rocked these trends! Here are a few trends that veered off from fashionable to just weird:
With a penchant for mixing vintage with new and combining unexpected colors, textures, and shapes for an ever-so-chic result, we are loving the style of the gorgeous Peony Lim!
Though you may not be familiar with the London-based stylist and blogger by name alone, if you have ever looked through street-style sites such as The Sartorialist, Citizen Couture, Vanessa Jackman or even Vogue.com, you have most certainly spotted Lim in one divine look after another.
If there’s one thing she is not, it’s afraid to take risks and stand out in a crowd!
Her polished yet slightly quirky aesthetic comes together as a culmination of sleek, structured shapes with a touch of fun, unexpected embellishments and a nod to old Hollywood glamour. To achieve a look similar to Lim’s, be sure to anchor your outfit with a tailored piece such as a sharp trouser, or a blazer or coat, and mix in vintage or vintage-inspired elements; the more colorful or furry the accoutrements, the better.
Season after season, Club Monaco has graced us with their flirty frocks and loose-fitting, laid-back styles. The use of neutral colors keeps the designs appealing to most, and the light silk and chiffon materials make them comfortable to wear. To no suprise, their spring/summer ‘12 collection is out and maintains the same chic style as its predecessors!
We love the easy-to-wear pieces in this collection and the day-to-night appeal. The inspiration behind the line was "road trip down California's coastline," which it brilliantly embodies. Each piece has that flowing fit that can be worn during the day with a blazer, or out at night with a leather jacket. The connection to west coast free spirit, and east coast city chic is spot on with silk, cropped pants, knee-length dresses, maxi skirts, scarves, and leather-trim totes and clutches.
Dressing for the weather is always a daunting task this time of year, especially given the erratic weather patterns experienced as of late.
80 degrees and not a cloud in the sky one week, dreary and cold the next...it’s enough to give a girl a true case of Seasonal Affect Disorder.
The good news?
Spring is finally here and the temperatures will only rise from here, so chase away what’s left of those bad weather blues with a pair of bright, punchy rain boots. Not only will these make facing the inevitable downpours that much more tolerable, but you’ll look stylish and have fun while doing it!
It was the fashion trend seen 'round the world during this past fashion week brigade. The bright, boxy bag made repeat appearances on the arms of fashionistas all over. Fashion bloggers in the know such as Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere, Atlantic-Pacific’s Blair, and Carolina of Fashion Squad, have illustrated the many ways you can style this fun springtime accessory.
Mad Men is back with a new season to start our week off just right! With it, comes the incredible ensembles that costume designer, Janie Bryant compiles --keeping our fashion addiction at an ultimate high! The high studded neck, butterfly sleeves, and cat eye makeup sported by Megan Draper (played by Jessica Paré) on the season 5 premiere was the hit of the episode. As she sang her own rendition of “Zou Bisou Bisou," her glamour and style hypnotizing fans and fashion enthusiasts alike. Want the look of this beautiful broad? We have a few tips to help you create your own Megan Draper rendition while still staying current and stylish!
