There is something else besides Valentine's Day to celebrate this week, and you don't need a significant other to participate. For Catholics, Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a time of year in which it is customary to abstain from pleasurable excesses. For many, that means the time leading up to Lent is the time to get in as much debauchery as possible before the fasting and piety begin, and this time is usually called carnaval. While the parades, drinking, dancing, and street food have been going on for weeks in Brazil, the culmination of the festivities happens tomorrow, February 12th, which is when SUSHISAMBA is hosting its yearly Carnaval Celebração.
Lest we forget about art of the culinary kind during Art Basel week, Sushi Samba will be manning a popup version of their Lincoln Road hotspot in the heart of some of the most exciting satellite fairs. Occupying the former Sustain space in the shops of Midtown, SUSHISAMBA’s SAMBAPOP will be only steps away from such fairs as Art Asia, Art Miami, and Context, as well as a short distance from many others. From now until Sunday, December 9th, SAMBAPOP will be serving “Baselers” their unique blend of Japanese, Brazilian, and Peruvian flavors that have made the SUSHISAMBA brand a mainstay on South Beach. With the announcement of its new chef, Brian Nasajon, SAMBAPOP will be the perfect opportunity for both local and visiting art aficionados to sample the new chef’s creative offerings, as well as many favorites.
High Altitude Oktoberfest: 230 Fifth is bringing Oktoberfest to a whole new level. From Sept. 22 until Oct. 7th, five German beers and two Germanic gastronomic classics will be added to the menu at the well-known rooftop lounge. Brews will sell for $6/bottle, $8/half liter, and $16/liter and German eats such as giant pretzels and bratwurst will go for $9. On Sept. 29th, from 12-6pm, make sure to drop by to start dancing up a storm along with Bavarian oompah music, play Teutonic inspired games and prizes, and gaze upon plenty of Fall decor.
Extended Sambahour: Both Sushisamba locations in the city are extending their immensely popular 'happy hour' from Sunday through Friday. Fan favorites such as the Classic Mojito and Yellowtail Tiradito will now be available for just $6 from 4-7pm and 11pm-close. If this isn't a deal to die for, I don't know what is!

This past Wednesday City Harvest's young professionals group, Generation Harvest, held its eleventh annual Summer in the City restaurant tasting and cocktail party at the Metropolitan Pavilion. During the event, guests had the opportunity to participate in a silent auction, featuring numerous goodies, both food and non-food related, as well as sample eats and libations from some of New York's best restaurants and bars. This year's event had over 650 attendees and raised over $230,000 to support City Harvest's mission of feeding NYC's hungry.
Both of Sushisamba's NYC locations have launched a new summer brunch menu, available on weekends from 11:30am until 4pm. From sweet and savory dishes to shakes and cocktails, this new menu is the cat's meow.
Try out a dish from the sweet menu like Doce de Leite French Toast with fresh berries and sesame whipped cream, or housemade Quinoa Waffles kuromitsu with vanilla-cinnamon butter.
Or opt for a dish from their savory menu like Wagyu Sliders with aji panca ketchup, shredded lettuce, tomato, and sesame brioche or Lobster Eggs Benedict with miso-yuzu hollandaise, South American frittata linquica, asparagus, heart of palm, manchego cheese, shrimp and polenta poached egg, nad manchego.
Sushisamba is known for their delicious fare and innovative menu. This month, the restaurant introduces the launch of a new hand roll, the first-ever quinoa temaki at all locations.
