Vegas is Heating Up With the World Series of Beer Pong

I'm originally from Illinois, so the phrase "world series" usually denotes feelings of shame and embarrassment as the Cubs drop the ball year after year. But this is a world series that I can get behind. I can't think of a better way to start 2010.

Starting January 1st and running through the 5th, Las Vegas is playing host to The World Series of Beer Pong. Contestants pay a registration fee of $599, which is a hefty price to pay for the legions of mainly college students who flock to the strip for this fifth annual competition. Luckily for them, the fee also includes a four-night stay at The Flamingo (home of the competition) and of course, the opportunity to play for the largest payout in the tournament's history with over $65,000 in prizes. Now that will buy you a lot of PBR.

Leno May Get Axed by Boston’s NBC Affiliate…

Sometimes, when the world has you feeling down, it’s nice to spend some quality time at home where people appreciate you (at least you hope they do). But if you can’t get any love in your hometown, where do you turn to next?

I don’t know, but that’s the conundrum facing late night television host Jay Leno, now that Boston’s local NBC affiliate (WHDH) wants to preempt his new show with a ten o’clock local news broadcast. Leno will be relinquishing his role as the host of NBC’s Late Night and venturing into the uncharted waters of primetime with The Jay Leno Show. MSNBC is reporting that “Ed Ansin, who owns WHDH’s parent company, told the Boston Globe he did not believe Leno’s new show would be successful. He said the station would do better financially with a news show that competes with Fox-affiliated WFXT-TV’s highly rated 10 P.M. newscast.”
