THE ROW
One store. One city. One luxury experience for one-hundred and eleven historical years. Bergdorf Goodman is preparing to commemorate its 111th birthday, and the fall surprises include something for everyone. As one of the most successful single stores in a single city, this occasion is not only a monumental event for the company, but also for the designers who started at the New York City store.
While Bergdorf Goodman has a combined total of 190,000 square feet between the men and women’s departments, and brings in an estimated $600 million in annual sales, rivaling even the likes of other, larger, competitors, it takes flawless dedication, an undying commitment to fashion, and a strong vow to nurturing relationships and providing quality service, to last this long. With this many successful years under the iconic store’s belt, we think the festivities are well deserved.

This year’s CFDA Awards were bigger than ever as they marked the 50-year anniversary of the organization’s existence. The event took place on Monday evening at New York City’s Lincoln Center in the Alice Tully Hall. To celebrate the winners and the CFDA’s anniversary, a video and fashion show was presented at the opening of the event including the history of the CFDA and showing where fashion once was, and where it is today. The Row’s Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were the winners of the 2012 Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Womenswear Designer of the Year award, where both women looked stunning in long, draping dresses; Ashley Donned a plum, silk gown, and Mary-Kate rocked anew dark and straight hairstyle. Billy Reid picked up the Menswear Designer of the Year award, and Reed Krakoff won in Accessories.
We love sunglasses. And parties. And beautiful bubbly entrepreneurs. So when we heard about the opening reception for a new one-of-a-kind eyewear boutique in the Upper East Side founded by the adorable Jaclyn Edelstein, we had to check it out. Ultimate Spectacle, located at 789 Lexington, is the new go-to spot for fashion savvy shoppers looking for high fashion, hard-to-find frames as well as specialized eye care. Not only can you find the hottest new styles, you can also get a comprehensive eye exam onsite, while eyewear experts fit you with ideal frames suited to your facial structure. And they know what they're doing! After glancing at me for a mere 5 seconds, they were able to instantly pick out two frames that fit my face perfectly.
CFDA and Ebay have taken a second lap around with their collaboration of customized handbags promoting awareness for the unfortunate spread of counterfeit fashion with a strong tag line in big bold print saying “You Can’t Fake Fashion." More than 70 designers have contributed their creations to this cause including Diane von Furstenberg, Tory Burch, Betsey Johnson and The Row. The auction started this morning at 11 am EST, and all will be sold on Ebay until March 31st. At $200 a bag, the designs are in 4 exclusive shapes: the duffle tote, the satchel tote, the gear tote, and the bucket tote. There is also an exclusive line of simpler bags going for $45, encouraging all you creatives to customize them yourselves. But hurry up and get them while they are still available! Many have sold out in just hours, and if it’s anything like the CFDA and Ebay collabo that went down last year, fans from all over the world will be scrambling to get the last of these stylish totes! All items will be sold under Ebay’s “buy it now” tab.
Join in on a good cause; contribute to the awareness of counterfeit designs and carry around a great bag to show your support for fashion and its right to be real!
The launch took the form of a cocktail party at the stylish Parisian designer store 'Montaigne Market.' When asked about perception of the line so far, Ashley said they had already been struggling to keep up with customer demand: Their much-publicized $39,000 alligator skin backpack, for example, has been flying out of the door:
“It was the first thing that sold off the shelf,” she told reporters, adding by comparison,“During our last economic crisis in the U.S., the only thing that went up was Hermès."
Back in the early 90s, Rosie Huntington-Whitely was no more than a smalltown girl living on an English farm. After a major growth spurt at age 13, she went from being teased for her tiny chest and big lips to being voted Most Likely to Become a Supermodel.
She soon became bored of her farm life, and decided to travel to London. At age 16, she was ‘discovered’, and starred in a commercial for Levi’s. Although she couldn’t drive, she spent her entire check on a Ford Ka, wholeheartedly believing it was the only time she would ever get paid for modeling. Needless to say, she was wrong.
After clicking through pictures of New York Fashion Week’s new collections, Miami fashionistas might find themselves discouraged by the upcoming Fall trends. We love Oscar de la Renta, but who are we kidding? Fur gilets have no place in the 305. Don’t let that get you down, though. There are a ton of other trends perfect for our November weather. Miami isn’t as seasonless as you think.
Alongside the fur and heavy velvet were sheer dresses, cheerful colors, and too-loose silhouettes suitable for South Florida. Floaty tops and pants with extra leg room are just some of the wearable trends. Breezy skirts with Spring’s longer hemline appeared at Tracy Reese and Christian Siriano. These skirts are perfect for windy days when you don’t feel like battling the wind to keep your skirt down.
We’ve seen Elizabeth + James, Olsenboye, and even The Row, which has been a huge hit in the fashion world! But that’s old news- it was just announced that the always-fashionable twins are teaming up with Toms Shoes, forming Toms + The Row Shoes. The new line will be available in plaid, wool-cashmere, and herringbone, and will be priced from $98 to $150.
The collaboration is nothing short of newsworthy, as the focus Toms + The Row Shoes is purely charitable. Well, for the most part- Blake Mycoskie, founder of Toms Shoes, is hoping the collaboration with the Olsen’s will help heighten exposure.
If anyone knows anything about double features in fashion, it’s Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen. Starting at just 6 months old, these actresses-turned-designers have been in the spotlight their entire lives. At just age 10, they entered the fashion industry revealing their “marykateandashley” line, and within the past few years have evolved tremendously. At the close of 2010, they had put their skills to use with not one, but three fashion lines: The Row, Elizabeth and James, and Olsenboye.
