THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE
October is fashion month at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, the perfect place to get stylishly inspired. The museum is hosting events throughout the month that could make a a great night out for any fashionista, including, but are not limited to, lectures on fashion in photography and film, a gallery talk on Avedon fashion and movie screenings that include Funny Face, Blow-Up and The September Issue.
Clusters of parched mouths and grumbling bellies huddled around the stainless-steel, communal kitchen on Friday September 10th in the center of the 6,500 square foot event space on the second floor of the Andaz 5th Avenue hotel, swirling glasses of wine, clinking glasses of local liquor, grabbing at canapes and mini-sandwiches and talking of Fashion Week's firm hold on all of New York City.
Hosted by Andaz, Vogue culinary editor Jeffrey Steingarten and Momofuku's celebrity chef David Chang, the event packed over 1,000 people into the brand new mid-town hotel's acclaimed event space, serving up endlessly delicious hor d'ourves: braised pork ribs dripping in a carmelized sweet and sour sauce and fried red onion flakes; pork belly squares folded into fluffly, steamed buns; Benton's smoky mountain ham on thick and crunchy crackers; kimchi apple salad; and mini-cups of frothy, whipped tofu with heirloom tomatoes.

MObama Shows Off - Amusingly, the First Lady became au fait with an overabundance of American Designers - distinctively, Jason Wu for the Inaugural Ball and the cover of Vogue. Work girlfriend!
Oliver vs. Nina Ricci - Following a season of hypothesized buzz, Nina Ricci and designer, Oliver Theyskens, divided. This left Theyskens out of a job and Nina Ricci to, well, Peter Dundas.
Fashion Week Packs Up - Mayor Bloomberg declared the ending of girls walking the Bryant Park pavements in their Nicolas Kirkwoods, with a fresh start beginning at Lincoln Center next fall. Boo!
The much anticipated fashion documentary, The September Issue, opened this weekend in NYC and turned big numbers. It ranks as the fifth highest documentary debut in history, behind the 1995 IMAX featurette Across the Sea of Time, Davis Guggenheim’s An Inconvenient Truth, Michael Moore’s Sicko, and Paul Provenza’s The Aristocrats, pretty good considering it’s main focus is on creating the largest issue of Vogue ever (hardly a pressing social issue, sorry folks!) and editor-in-chief of the mag Anna Wintour however I can’t say I didn’t think she didn’t have it in her.
The September 2007 issue of Vogue magazine weighed nearly five pounds, and was the single largest issue of a magazine ever published. With unprecedented access, The September Issue, directed and produced by R.J. Cutler, tells the story of legendary Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour and her larger-than-life team of editors creating the issue and ruling the world of fashion.
The September Issue won the Grand Jury Prize for Excellence in Cinematography at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
September is the January of fashion, and I dream of seeing again a 400 pages issue of Vogue (too much?300?Please?)
Is Anna Wintour really as terrifying as Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada? Well, we might just get to find out when The September Issue hits our screens this summer. The film, that won the Grand Jury Prize for Excellence in Cinematography at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, is out August 28 and documents the legendary Editor-in-Chief and her staff as they prepare for their biggest ever issue. We can’t wait for a glance behind the scenes of the world’s most iconic fashion magazine and, from what we’ve seen in the trailer, it won’t disappoint.
Eight months of filming in the Vogue offices and 300 hours of footage later, RJ Cutler’s documentary The September Issue will make its premiere this weekend at Sundance. Anna Wintour herself approved the project, which chronicles the making of the September 2007 issue of Vogue, and she will be attending the screening in support. Designers like Karl Lagerfeld, Thakoon Panichgul and Nicolas Ghesquiere all make appearances in the film, while Wintour highlights include a scene in which she debates whether or not pink is the appropriate color message for September.
Whether you are an avid Vogue reader or just enjoy mocking fashion magazines, The September Issue is sure to be interesting. [fashionologie]
