In early 2013, River North at La Salle and Hurron will host a new hotel, The Godfrey. The 221-room Godfrey is the latest concept and lifestyle hotel brought to you by Oxford Capital and Cube Capital. Not only will it be attached to the Hotel Felix (also led by Oxford), it’s set to take over the incomplete, cubist-inspired shell of a building originally carved out for Staybridge Suites, which never came to fruition.
Godfrey will be defined as an independent, upscale, lifestyle hotel with 194 generously-sized studio suites and 27 one-bedroom suites, a chef-driven resto and bar and a 12,000 square-foot indoor/outdoor rooftop lounge. Guests will enjoy a top-knotch view of the Chicago skyline.

A trendy hostel in the heart of Miami Beach --how has no one thought of this before?
Developer Andrew Zobler is the C.E.O. behind Sydell Group (responsible for bringing the Ace Hotel to New York) and is the man responsible for bringing huge changes in the way hospitality works to Miami Beach. Quoted as calling his new endeavor a “game-changer,” the Freehand Miami Beach is hospitality for a new generation of travelers.
In her latest project photographer Wilma Hurskainen addresses foundations of feminism within the juxtaposition of contemporary photographic art vs. the tradition of family photographs. “Growth – Kasvu” explores these ideas by recreating photographs of Hurskainen and her three sisters taken by her father in their youth and placing the original alongside the recreation, taken by Hurskainen.
Changes in the scenery or landscape over the past however-many years are an easy indicator of Hurskainen’s failure at replication, as is the obvious growth of the four sisters as they overpower situations they had once been so diminutive in. On closer inspection, however, one can see a deeper appropriation of the artist’s achievement and expectant failure within the poses and characters of the four sisters themselves.
On her blog, The Lesen Lounge, Berliner by-way-of Canada Leah Buckareff defines a zine as "an independently produced publication. Most often they are self or hand-made books that vary in content, but usually house the creators' personal thoughts, ideas, or artwork both in text and images."
An avid artist and musician, Buckareff has set out to draw a greater awareness of zine publication from the Berlin community. She will ride out through parks every weekend on her "Lesen Lounge," a bike with a brightly painted zine library attached.
